Macular Degeneration
Macular degeneration is one of the most common causes of permanent vision loss and involves deterioration of the center of the retina. Early diagnosis is important to educate the patient and develop an appropriate schedule to monitor this condition. Vitamin therapy is used to slow down progression. In more advanced forms, (wet macular degeneration), prompt referral to a retinal specialist is arranged by our office for treatment with intraocular injections.
Diabetic Eye Examinations
Diabetes mellitus is increasingly common in the US and a major cause of vision loss. With years of experience in diagnosing diabetic eye disease, we use the most advanced technology to detect changes at the earliest stages when initiation of treatment with laser or injections can be most effective. In some patients, we detect diabetic eye disease before they even know they have diabetes. Our practice is diligent about communicating findings to the primary care physician so any required changes in the patient’s diabetic medications can be made.
Dry Eye Treatment
Dry eye syndrome is a common cause of eye irritation and visual problems. A detailed patient history and eye exam are necessary to identify the contributing factors. Treatment involves tear replacement with drops, lid hygiene, temporary or permanent closure of the tear drainage ducts with silicone plugs or electrocautery, and topical anti-inflammatory agents.
Optical Dispensary
Eye Specialists began dispensing eyeglasses as a convenience to our patients. In the past, patients were often disappointed that they could not fill their glasses prescriptions at our office. It was apparent to Drs. Chou and Paul that our patients were often not getting the appropriate lenses. In addition, any problems that arose necessitated the patient going back and forth between the optical shop and our office to determine the problem. Our goal is to provide high quality frames and lenses at a reasonable price in a convenient “one-stop shopping” location.
