In May 2021, we began an optical dispensary to provide patients with the option of purchasing their eyeglasses in our office. It took us over 20 years to do this, as it was not the norm when we began practicing ophthalmology 30 years ago. Now, it is unusual to find an ophthalmology practice without an optical shop.

We were growing increasingly concerned about the quality and cost of eyeglasses that our patients were receiving. The stand-alone opticians, to whom we referred most of our patients, have become very rare in these days of large corporations such as Walmart and LensCrafters. We believe that by offering eyewear in our practice, we can offer our patients quality products at a reasonable price. Also, if the patient does have a problem with the new glasses, we can quickly remedy this issue instead of having the patient caught in the middle between us and the optician.
